Organic Matters!Posted on April 28, 2020 at 4:49 am by Rob Holley
2020 is a milestone year for Holley Family Farms! It marks our 10th year of USDA Organic vegetable production, and our 10th year at the Carson Farmers Market! The Carson Market is special to our entire family. Many of the vendors and customers have become dear friends, and having grown up in Carson City, we look forward to frequent visits with teachers, neighbors, classmates, teammates and others – some going back over 40 years! As we plan and work throughout the year, it is always with the goal of providing nutrient dense, clean food to our local market and the customers that keep returning!
Key to our farm operation is continuing to certify our vegetable production as USDA Organic. The National Organic Program, or NOP, provides comprehensive standards for the production of Organic products. In order to be certified Organic, we develop an extensive farm plan, keep comprehensive farm activity and purchasing records, and we gladly submit to rigorous annual farm inspections and audits – all to verify that we do what we say we do. We grow healthy vegetables without any GMO (transgenetic) products, without the use of any harmful chemicals and in a way that sequesters carbon, improves soil health, increases wildlife diversity, improves water quality, and improves not only our quality of life, but that of our customers and our community. We’re pleased to bring our family-grown Organic produce to our hometown market. The USDA Organic symbol gives our customers the assurance that our produce meets the highest standards of responsibility, integrity, and quality.Tags: CCOF, certified organic, family farm, farm to fork, farm to table, farmer, farmers market, farming, know your farmer, know your food, love your farmer, organic, vegetables
